the house on sorority row

1982 Directed by Mark Rosman

Horror Marathon Day 20 Film 35

A birth gone wrong scene starts the film- years later we have a group of sorority sisters that are badgered by the mother of the first scene and they end up killing her and throwing her in some swampy pool water. Revenge killings start to pile up the bodies- but most of the time is spent on some unfolding experiment mystery. I can't say I enjoyed this as a slasher honestly- though some blood spurts are with a cane it felt like a middling Giallo movie.

The sequences with dolls with hidden knives are creepy too. By the time we're to the face of the killer the plot has become so convoluted that I couldn't be engaged with the ending that has as much logic as a Scooby-Doo whodunnit. There may be some more chuckle worthy scenes too, but I found the bumbling cops and party with a band scenes to be a bit more perfunctory than having any interesting outcome. The finale feels like a soap opera and ends on a mid season cliffhanger.
