The red queen kills seven times

1972 Directed by Emilio Miraglia

Horror Marathon Day 20 Film 33

Two girls fight each other while a painting of a Red Queen being killed by her sister- the Black Queen- that inspires their infighting. Their grandfather presents them the myth of the red queen- who dies and haunts again to kill her sister and six others every 100 years...a nice gothic setup! Of course when the sisters grow up one of them dies- only to be reborn as a wicked red queen who seems to show up to kill everyone after their grandfather's death.

Though the plot meanders quite a bit it has a bit of an Agatha Christy like mystery to it. The chambers of the large castle space make for a nice setting. The pacing is a bit slower than I'd like - and it becomes a bit obvious who the real killer is. But I liked the general aesthetic for the killer and setting up a creepy environment. The ending has some nice dramatized moments as the killer's plot unravels as well.
